Washington, Aug 26, 2009 - New photographs that now adorn the walls of Iowa Congressman Tom Latham’s Washington office welcome visitors with a glimpse of the beauty and tradition of Iowa’s 4th Congressional District.

The new photos, taken by noted Ames photographer Mark S. Peterson, showcase Iowa at its most scenic, including shots of Ledges State Park in Boone County and the Iowa State University Campus in Ames. The new photos are displayed prominently throughout  Congressman Latham’s Washington office and will be switched periodically as the seasons change.

“The photos are the first thing visitors see when they walk into the office,” Congressman Latham said. “They’re a wonderful way to greet visitors and give them a small taste of Iowa’s unsurpassed beauty.”

Among the new photographs on display are shots of the Iowa State University Campanile and nature scenes and landscapes taken throughout Iowa’s 4th Congressional District. Peterson, a native of Des Moines, has lived in Ames for 12 years. His work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in art galleries and public spaces around the Midwest and has appeared in private, corporate and university collections in the U.S. and Europe.

“I'm honored to have had my work selected for exhibit in Congressman Latham's Washington office,” Peterson said. “Having lived in Iowa's 4th Congressional District for a number of years now, I have had the opportunity to photograph this area's landscape, features of its natural history and historical artifacts extensively.  The photographs selected for this exhibit represent a fine cross-section of this district's beauty.”

Congressman Latham said the new photographs brighten the office and offer a few familiar sights to constituents who visit Washington.

“The new pictures celebrate Iowa’s 4th Congressional District and depict some of its most defining features,” Congressman Latham said.  “I’m proud to have them in my office.”
